Stinky Triffid

I haven’t started to research what this is called, or what kind of plant it is!
It really pongs! Atracts flies! (they were scared off by my presence)
Something from outer Space!

Te Mata Peak, Hawke Bay

My business partner and I went down to Hastings for the day and had time for a trip to the summit of Te Mata Peak.080214-temata-1.jpg

Wild Carrot Flowers

The Wild Carrot really proliferates after some clearing or cultivation has occurred.
They are quite tall and have lovely filigree flowers up to 10cm across.

Bees in the Thistle Flowers

We are blest with having a lot of Bees around at the moment.
Seems to be more Bumble Bees on the Thistle flowers,
though we do do get Workers as well.
I suspect that these are from someones hive, rather than being feral bees.
From what I”ve heard all the feral hives around here have been wiped out by the Veroa Mite.

Quite a number of sider nest around at the moment with this one located in a small papyrus plant.

Wild Life!

This Duck has only one foot so hobbles around quite successfully.
Having a good wash is the 3rd-4th flock tabby-tortoiseshell female.
Though the wild catz are quite used to us you can never get TOO close!

A Bramble snakes through the Wildflowers

Quite a bit of Blackberry around the Farm.
Easy enough to cut back though and one day I might dig it out if I want something else to grow there.
A diversity of wild plants (weeds) like this provide homes and fodder for a myriad of insect life and flowers for bees, which we have a lot of despite the Veroa Mite!
When cut, weeds like this provide valuable minerals and humus to the soil.
