French Bay, being on the Manukau Harbour, has large tidal flats and when the tide comes in it gradualy rolls its way forward across the shell flats to the beach.

Kitekite Falls – Piha

On ANZAC Day we took the children on a walk up to the Kitekite Falls at the head of the Piha valley.
Took us about an hour as dear old froggy, our blind old labrador, had to sniff his way there!
Lovely bush (rainforest) on the way.

Flowering Rata

Reuben and I went for a drive out to Piha yesterday and as I was driving a flash of orange at the side of the road caught my eye. Rata!! I’ve never been able to get up to one so close and personal when in flower! Probably because they only flower every 3 – 5 years!
